HES opens a brand new pediatric office!

HES is pleased to announce the opening of their newest facility within Wehrle Professional Center located at 2733 Wehrle Drive in Williamsville, NY. With Williamsville Pediatrics as the anchor tenant in this brand-new 20,000 square foot medical complex, HES found a perfect opportunity to expand our pediatric audiology department.

The Wehrle office is equipped with the most current, state-of-the-art test equipment designed to evaluate even the youngest of our HES patients. This office features Video Visual Reinforcement Audiometry testing for children six months to two years of age. Your child will actually have fun watching there favorite cartoons without even realizing that are having their hearing tested. The way it works is simple. The sound treated booth is equipped with two television screens. The child sits on their parents lap in the middle of the sound booth. When they hear speech or a tone and look towards it their favorite cartoon flashes across the screen for a few seconds…. until they respond appropriately again! The audiologists at HES were excited to see how easy it is to get accurate test results on children this young, using this state-of-the-art technology.

HES also has brand new equipment for evaluating children six months of age and under using otoacoustic emissions (OAE) and wireless auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing. Our brand new OAE test equipment is small and fast and responses can be obtained quickly and efficiently on newborns and small children. When more specific information is needed for these young children, our wireless ABR testing gives accurate test results while the child is awake or quietly playing. Older ABR equipment required that the child be sleeping or sedated. There is no need for this with our new test equipment.

For older children, three and up, we have a wide assortment of toys for them as well. We condition them to perform a simple task, such as putting a sticker on a sticker board, every time they hear a sound. Once again, the child has a fun positive experience while we gather information about their hearing.

For our hearing impaired children who wear hearing aids, HES has the latest equipment to verify that the child is receiving appropriate amplification in all listening situations. A small microphone is put in the child’s ear along with their hearing aid. The equipment generates live speech and our audiologists measure exactly how much amplification your child is receiving for soft, average and loud speech. This verification testing puts parents at ease knowing that their child is receiving the appropriate amount of amplification all day long.

HES employs several audiologists who specialize in pediatric audiology. Good hearing is so crucial to a child’s speech and language development. At HES you will find that our audiologists are dedicated to ensuring that each child receives a complete and accurate hearing test.   Call and schedule an appointment for your child today!
