Counseling
Hearing Evaluation Services primary goal is to help our patients hear the best that they can. We provide individual counseling to help those with hearing loss function more effectively in different social, educational, and occupational environments. We also work closely with family members to help them understand the nature of hearing loss and educate them in techniques to improve communication at home.
Hearing Aids
Audiologists are the most qualified professionals to provide competent caring hearing aid evaluations and fittings. Following a diagnostic assessment of your hearing ability, we discuss your specific communication needs to determine which instrument is best suited to you as an individual and your lifestyle. We provide all types and styles of hearing aids including basic and advanced digital hearing aids from a variety of hearing aid manufacturers. Every person who tries a hearing aid receives a 45 day trial period with it. This provides an opportunity to try the aid in a variety of listening situations to ensure that it is meeting each person’s individual hearing needs. Our success rate and overall satisfaction with hearing aids is extremely high. For more information, please see Hearing Aids.
Assistive Listening Devices (ALD)
Assistive listening devices are devices that are designed to enhance or improve your listening and hearing experiences. Sometimes this equipment is used along with the hearing aid to better meet an individual’s communication goals, but often, assistive listening devices can be used instead of hearing aids. One common assistive device will amplify the telephone and make speech clearer. Another common device is a cordless headset that will amplify the television. Alarm clocks, doorbells and other alerting devices are available as well. Audiologists are the experts in assistive listening equipment and personal alerting devices. Your audiologist can help identify equipment or devices that may be of benefit to you. For more specific information on ALDs please see FM/ALD.
Cerumen Removal
Cerumen (or ear wax) sometimes builds up in a person’s ear canal to the point that it is blocking out sound and creating a hearing loss. Cerumen is also a problem for people who wear hearing aids as it can block the sound coming out of the hearing aid and cause feedback (whistling sound). Hearing Evaluation Services provides cerumen removal using equipment developed by Dr. Irwin Ginsburg called the EARIGATOR. Water is drawn from a reservoir and is pushed through a hand piece with a nozzle at a controlled temperature, pressure and flow rate. The EARIGATOR is a safe, effective way to remove cerumen from the ear canal.
